British Foreign and Commonwealth Office and EFT promote new joint scholarship programme

From 2010 EFT and the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office will provide funds for a new Chevening - EFT scholarship programme. The Chevening-EFT scholarship will be administered by the British Council in Serbia, as part of its existing Chevening scheme. The Chevening –EFT scholarship programme was today presented by the British Ambassador in Serbia, H.E. Stephen Wordsworth and EFT Vice-Chairman James Nye. The Chevening Scholarship Programme is a prestigious awards scheme that funds international postgraduate students who want to study in the UK. The Chevening - EFT scholarship will fund a whole year of postgraduate study or no less than three months’ courses in the UK only. 

This includes: 
- a gratis student visa 
- all academic fees 
- a monthly allowance to cover living expenses 
- an arrival and departure allowance to help with travel 
- a book and clothing allowance 
- travel costs to and from the UK 

The Chevening - EFT scholarship will provide successful applicants with a chance to experience a world-renowned educational system and the opportunity to experience life in the UK. Successful candidates are given an opportunity to meet other Chevening scholars and further develop their careers. 

A Chevening – EFT scholar will usually be postgraduate students who can prove their academic success and who have already begun a career in their chosen field. Successful candidates will be expected to have at least two years' working experience, with an excellent track record illustrating their achievements. They will also need an upper second class degree or higher. There is no age limit, but candidates must be resident in Serbia when they apply. 

One of the main aims of the scheme is to assist successful candidates in playing leading roles in the future of their country. Applicants will normally be selected from those who wish to take courses in: 

- Public administration reform 
- EU integration 
- International law 
- Economics 
- Journalism 
- Environmental protection 
- Educational reform 

All candidates are expected to show a commitment to return to Serbia and to contribute to the country's socio-economic development by using the skills and knowledge acquired during their stay in the UK. For more information, please visit www.eft-chevening.net
